Positive Self-Talk to Boost my Mood

Monte, (yes I’m addressing this to myself because this post is not about you all, it’s about me)

You’re killing the game. It doesn’t always feel like that because sometimes you feel like you could be doing more, and so you always look for other ways to fill your time, and then feel bad when you can’t quite figure out what else to do. But guess what, you’re already doing a ton, so chill out.

You spent last semester abroad. In Italy. Learning Italian. You just tried to listen to a podcast in Italian earlier today, and you UNDERSTOOD MOST OF IT! Shocking, but extremely encouraging. So now you know how to travel by yourself, you gained incredible independence, learned how to cook even though you didn’t have access to an oven, and took oral exams in a different language. Claps for you, girl.

Then you hopped back over the pond and came back to American college, where you assumed position as President of a professional a cappella group that has a 20 year legacy.

You started a workout program, and have now stuck with it for over 6 weeks. You’re over halfway done! Congratulations girl! This program is intense, making you work out 5-6 days a week!

You are an honors student, with a major and a double minor.

You work two jobs.

You have an internship lined up for the summer.

You are a in a sorority and help put on its events.

You have friends who support you and a family who adores you.

You read before going to bed.

You blog as a creative outlet.

Your lowest grade is a 93%.

Summer is almost here.

You don’t have to do everything. You already do a lot. Never get stagnant, but don’t stress yourself out. If you desperately need something to do, take some you-time. Get your nails done. Clean your room. Learn a song on ukulele. Play with the dogs at the pet store. Download new music. Curl your hair. Sing. Breathe.


This is not my usual post, but recently I have been feeling like I need to do more with my life. That feeling is a kind of discontentment, and I sometimes need to step back and realize that there is much to be content with. I can be proud of myself. Sometimes I need to talk myself up, and I wanted to post it here because I think everyone can learn how to have positive self-talk. Some people go to dark places in their head and say negative things to themselves, and have negative opinions of themselves. I want to always encourage a positive mind, pleasant thoughts, happy self-talk.

  2. Lowest grade is a 93%? Impressive I did a lot of academic advising in my career, and I know how hard you had to work and how well you have to manage your time to keep up with all this. Hope you’re fitting in eight hours of sleep a night, too. (So many students underestimate sleep.) And you’ve earned some relaxation.
